John "Jack" Richard Mabie, 73, of Springfield died at 5:45 a.m. Wednesday, September 30, 1993, of a heart attack, at his residence.

He was born July 18, 1920, in Knoxville, Iowa, the son of William Thomas and Allien Elder Mabie.

He married Ann Brady in 1953. Preceding him in death were a son, John Mabie; two brothers; and a sister.

Mr. Mabie was a union ironworker and had been employed by the secretary of state in the physical services department. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Ironworkers Local 46, AARP, Republican Club of Springfield Township, 40-year member of Eagles Aerie 437, DAV, American Legion Post 32, Navy Club and life member of VFW Post 755.

He was a Republican precinct committeeman for 25 years. He served in the Navy during World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ann Mabie of Springfield; daughter, Barbara Carnduff of Springfield; two sons, Bill and Tom Mabie, both of Springfield; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Mass will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Church, with the Rev. Roger Simpson officiating.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Staab Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
