Howard Vere Welch, 64, a native of Marion County, died Jan. 25 in Sacramento, Calif., following an apparent heart attack.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today (Thursday) from Williams Funeral Home here with burial in Breckenridge Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Betty; two brothers, Myron and Wyatt Welch of Knoxville; and one sister, Mrs. Vera VanGilst of Killduff.

Funeral services for Howard Welch, who died Jan. 25 in Sacramento, Calif.., were held Jan. 30 from Williams Funeral Home here with Rev. Donald Gatelle of Kinduff officiating. Burial was in Breckenridge Cemetery.

Casketbearers were Danny Glenn, Raymond Glenn, Charles Still, Virgil Lemmons, Russell Crozier and Frank Mitchell. Mrs. Lois Anderson was the organist.

Howard Vere, son of James Albert and Mary Myrtle Smith Welch, was born Sept. 29, 1910 at Knoxville, where he graduated from high school.

He became affiliated with the Gamble Stores and after serving in the Navy, he returned to Iowa and then operated Gamble stores in several states.

In 1965 he was married to Betty Jean Terry of Sacramento, Calif., where the couple made their home. He was a longtime member of Siloam Masonic Lodge 976 at Oklahoma City. Okla., and 1.0.0.F. Lodge 90 of Knoxville. Special Masonic services were held in Sacramento.

His parents and a sister, Thelma preceded him in death.

Surviving is his wife: two brothers Myron and Wyatt Welch of Knoxville: and one sister Mrs. Clair (Vera) VanGilst.
