Services for Herbert Elliott Cline, 83, of Knoxville, who passed away March 16,
1991 at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital, were held March 18 at the First United
Methodist Church. Bybee and Davis Funeral Home officiated at the services. Rev.
K. Wayne Hoehns officiated at the services. Music was provided by organist Linda
Gehling and soloist Stephanie Young.
Pallbearers were Dude Hoehns, Peter Agnew, Ron Rodgers, Ron Whitlatch, Hugh Whitlatch
and Richard Whitlatch.
Herbert was born on Dec. 17, 1907 in Marion County to son of Ray and Lena Elliott
Cline. He graduated from Knxoville High School in the class of 1926.
He was united in marriage to Leona Frances Whitlatch on April 19, 1931 on the family
farm on Long Lane in southern Marion County.
The couple first farmed in the Olive Chapel neighborhood, then the Pleasantville. area
and in 1942 they moved to tilt farm south of Bussey where they resided until 1972.
Herb and Leona moved to Knoxville that year and he remained active up until the
time of his death.
Herb was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Knoxville, the Knoxville
Kiwanis Club and a past director of the Marion County, State and National Angus
Associa- tion. He was an active member of the Marion County Fair Association for
8 03 many years. He was given one of the highest honors in farming by being named
"State Master Farmer" in 1961.
Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister Marie Agnew.
He is survived by his wife Leona, his daughter Carolyn Cleair and son-in-law
Marvin of Manly; his son Joe Cline and daughter-in-law Mary Lynne of Muscatine;
three grandchildren, Marri Jo Cleair, Heather Marie Cline and Nathan Joseph
Cline. Also surviving are his sister Betty Reed of Osage Beach, Mo.
A memorial has been established to the First United Methodist Church of Knoxville.
