Helen Mackin Nichol, 90, of Valley View Village. 2571 Guthrie Ave died of a heart ailment Tuesday at home.
Services will be at 10.30 a m Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, of which she was a member. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery.
Mrs. Nichol was born in Ossian and moved to Des Moines in 1971 from Ames. She had taught in Clarinda, Knoxville. Mount Pleasant, Ames, Colo, Gilbert and Minnesota and last taught at Cromwell Children's Unit for the Mentally and Emotionally Disturbed in Independence.
She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution. PEO and the Iowa State Education Association.
There are no immediate survivors.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. today at Dunn's Funeral Home, where a vigil service will be held at 6:30 p m. Memorial contributions may be made to the University of Iowa scholarship fund or her church
