Knoxville and the community was saddened Monday evening to learn of the death of Mrs. Dwight A. Mater, a popular Knoxville woman who died in Methodist hospital at Des Moines.
Mrs. Helen Louise (Booth) Mater, who was 28 years old, had been in ill health for the last four to five months, but her condition was not believed to be serious. Early Friday morning her condition became suddenly worse and at 12:30 p.m., she was rushed to Methodist hospital. In spite of the best case and attention, she grew weaker, passing away Monday at 7:00 p.m.
Helen Louise Booth was born in Knoxville on July 20, 1910, the eldest daughter of Fred and Harriett Booth.
Her girlhood days were spent in Knoxville where she attended the Knoxville public schools, receiving her high school diploma with the class of 1928.
On June 12, 1932 she was married to Dwight A. Mater of Knoxville. Following their marriage, they moved to Iowa City where Mr. Mater entered the University of Iowa medical school. After his graduation, they returned to Knoxville where Dr. Mater entered the medical practice.
To this union one son was born, Dwight A. Mater Jr. who survives. She is also survived by her husband, parents, one brother, Hubert of Pensacola, FL. And one sister, Mrs. Maxine Coggshell of Waukesha, and an aunt Miss. Maggie Risewick, who lived in the Booth home and was very dear to Helen.
She is also survived by other relatives and a host of friends with whom she was deservedly popular and from whose circle she will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held in the Methodist Episcopal church in Knoxville this Thursday at 2:30 p.m. with Rev T.C. Kennedy officiating.
Burial will be in the Graceland cemetery.
