In accordance to his wishes, there were no services for, 76, Harold N. Speed of Long Beach, Calif., who died on Oct. 29, 1993. The body was cremated.

Harold N. Speed was born on July 6, 1917, in Pleasantville, Iowa, the son of Homer and Ola Frush
Speed.

He graduated from Knoxville High School in the Class of 1935 and worked for Speed
Pharmacy until he left for the service during World War II, serving in New Guinea,
the Philippines and Japan.

After the war, he worked for Safeway Stores in Los Angeles and later owned and operated
a neighborhood grocery store in Bellflower, Calif.

Survivors include two sisters, Hazel Ridlen of Davenport and Alberta Bivans of Pleasantville;
one niece, Toni Birdsall of Blue Grass; one nephew, Ronnie Bivans of the state of
Texas; very close friends, Mr. and Mrs. Doug Lawson of Bellflower; and several grandnieces
and grandnephews.
