Harold Eugene Giesman was born on March 1, 1949, in Lawrence, Kansas.

He was the fourth of six children that were born in different locations to Henry Edward and Elizabeth Jane (Werst) Giesman.

The family moved to Knoxville, Iowa in March 1951. Harold’s father, Henry, passed away on December 23, 1962, and his mother, Jane, worked hard to raise their six children alone while living in Columbia, Iowa.

Harold graduated from Knoxville High School in 1968. His first employment was at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Knoxville and he then was employed with The Maytag Company in Newton, Iowa for 30+ years. When not working Harold enjoyed raising chickens, pigeons, and gardening. He fished for bass, hunted, did square dancing, and when not doing that watched sports and PLAYED CARDS.

He continued living in Columbia until moving into an apartment in Chariton, Iowa a year ago to be closer to his youngest sister, Virginia Oxenreider.

Harold passed away Monday, March 6, 2023, at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 74 years.

He is survived by his three brothers and their wives: Ralph and Roseanne Giesman of Denison, Iowa, John and Sharon Giesman of Buffalo Center, Iowa, Fred and Diane Giesman of Kellogg, Iowa, his sister, Virginia and her husband, Ed Oxenreider of Chariton, Iowa and his brother-in-law, Terry (Rosalie Giesman) Nielsen of Chariton, Iowa; as well as his nieces and nephews.

Harold was preceded in death by his father, Henry, on December 23, 1962, his mother, Jane, on April 12, 2006, and his sister, Rosalie Nielsen, on December 29, 2017.

A Celebration of Life is being planned for a later date with a burial to be made in the Lincoln Cemetery in Knoxville, Iowa.
