Harold Dean Courtney was born on February 27, 1952, in Knoxville, Iowa the son of William Courtney and Patricia (Beaver) Courtney.
He was raised in Knoxville and graduated with the Class of 1970. During high school, Harold was a standardized and was the first wrestler from Knoxville to qualify for the State Tournament.
Following high school, Harold enlisted in the United State Marine Corps. He served in combat, in Vietnam, for a year and a half before he was honorable discharged. He then returned to Knoxville and began working for the Knoxville V.A. Medical Center. He retired after 30 years of service from the Police Department at the V.A.
Harold had many interests; he was a fourth-degree black belt and instructor in Quan Li’Khan Shoalin.
He and Colleen also enjoyed wintering in Sanibel Inland, Florida.
Harold passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2007, at the Mercy Medical Center, in Des Moines, at the age of 55 years, 2 months, and 21 days. He was proceeded in death by his parents and his sister, Joyce Glover.
Those left to honor his memory include two sons, Brian Courtney (Wife: Kimberly), Sons: Connor and Logan, Kyle Courtney (Wife: Tina and two daughters; three sisters, Cheryl (Bill) Noel, Cindy Courtney, and Madonna Courtney all of Daytona Beach, Florida and the mother of his sons, Carmin Courtney of Albia.
Memorial Graveside Service Pleasantville Cemetery Monday, May 21, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. Carole Rowland officiating Military Honor provided by the Pleasantville American Legion Post No. 103.
