Gladys Irene Taggart was born May 03, 1902 in Marion County, Iowa, and died November 22, 1988 in Pleasantville, Iowa.

She married Opal Sylvester Bowery June 04, 1933 in Knoxville, Marion County, Iowa. He was born March 16, 1894, and died July 1976.

Services for Gladys Bowery of Pleasantville who passed away Nov. 22 at the, age, of 86, were held Nov, 26 at the Church of Christ in Pleasantville. The Rev. Russell Clerk officiated. Music was provided by Jim Hoffman, organist and Beth Burkhead, soloist. Interment will be in Pleasantville Cemetery at a later date.

She was born May 3, 1902 in Knoxville, the daughter of William and Mattie Hartness Taggart. She spent her early years in Knoxville and graduated from Knoxville High School.

She attended William Penn in Oskaloosa, Simpson in Indianola and Drake University in Des Moines.

She taught school in Marion, Warren, Jasper and Polk counties for over 20 years. She married Opal Bowery on June 4, 1933 in Knoxville. They farmed near Beach many years and later south of Pleasantville. She was also a member of the Church of Christ in Pleasantville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband in 1976, one brother and one sister.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Vyrlee) Sease and Mrs. David (Karen) Haas, both of Pleasantville: one brother, James Taggart of Oklahoma City, Okla; one sister, Mrs. Elmer (Wilma) Scherrer of Bellevue; three grandchildren; and four foster children, including Milford Hanson of Jamesville.
