Gerald Michael “Mike” Murphy age 71, of Knoxville, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2015, at Knoxville Hospital and Clinics.

Mike’s wishes were to be cremated and his memorial mass will be held at 11:00 A.M., June 3, 2015 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church of Knoxville, with Rev. Jacob Greiner officiating.

Mike’s family will be greeting friends from 10:00 A.M., until service time on Wednesday.

Mike was born July 15, 1943, at his parents’ home, James Francis and Catherine (Bingaman) Murphy. Mike was raised in Knoxville. He attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School and was a graduate of Knoxville High School.

Soon after high school Mike began his career as a meat cutter. He worked as a meat cutter for 45 years, mainly for the Knoxville Hy-Vee and later at Hometown Meats.

On August of 1970 Mike and Sally Kay Redding were united in marriage. They were blessed with five children: Mick, Kathy, Kristy, Will, and David.

Mike enjoyed golf all his life. As a young man he would caddy at Pine Knolls Country Club. He played most of his life, and he liked to watch golf. He also liked college sports, reading, watching westerns, and was an excellent pool player.

Mike is survived by his three sons, Mick Murphy of Monroe, Will (Angie) Murphy of Knoxville, and David Murphy of Des Moines; his two twin daughters, Kathy (David) Ridenhour of Virginia, and Kristy Murphy of Chariton, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his two brothers, James Murphy of Wisconsin and Gene (JoAnn) Murphy of New Mexico; and two sisters, Mary Eddleman of Knoxville, and Lois (Clair) Rankin of Knoxville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Francis and Catherine (Bingaman) Murphy, and his brother, Donald Murphy. Gerald Michael “Mike” Murphy age 71 of Knoxville, Iowa, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2015, at Knoxville Hospital and Clinics.
