Frances Madelaine (Brees) Kain, age 91, of Knoxville, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, June 10, 2021, at the Knoxville Hospital and Clinics in Knoxville.

Visitation for Frances will be held on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Knoxville from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Frances’ family will be present to greet friends and relatives. A rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2021, at 2:00 P.M. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville.

Frances was born in Knoxville, Iowa on March 8, 1930, the daughter of Osa “Ocie” and Zelie (Herduin) Brees.

She was raised in Knoxville with her brothers, and she graduated from Knoxville High School, Class of 1948. After graduating Frances worked at Hy-Vee where she was often known by her nickname “Breezy”.

On February 17, 1958, Frances and Marvin Darrel Kain were united in marriage. Frances and Marvin shared 58 years of marriage in Knoxville, and both were blessed with their three children: Theresa (who died in infancy), Lori, and Lisa. Marvin died in November 2015.

Frances was a homemaker most of her life, raising Lori and Lisa and also helping with her many nieces and nephews, and grandchildren. Frances was a devoted member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and for many years she was active in St. Anthony’s Altar and Rosary. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s events, flower gardening, and her backyard wild birds. She also spent a great deal of time reading, putting together puzzles, and coloring.

Those left to cherish Frances’ memory include her two daughters, Lori Horstmann and Lisa McNeill, and her husband Brian all of Knoxville; five grandchildren, Cory and Haley Horstmann and Colin and Cade McNeill and Caleb McNeill (deceased).

Frances is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Marvin Kain, and their daughter in infancy Theresa; her parents Ocie and Zelie Brees; four brothers Charles, James, Leo, and Richard Brees; and her grandson Caleb McNeill.

Memorial donations may be given in Frances’ memory to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and EveryStep Hospice of Knoxville.
