Floyd Rex Agan, 80, of Camp Verde, Ariz., passed away on Nov. 4, 2010. Floyd was
born Sept. 3, 1930, to Rex and Audrey May Agan in Lucas County. He graduated from
Knoxville High School in 1948 and engaged in farming.
On Sept. 9, 1950, he married Mary Slykhuis at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua.
They spent the first 26 years of their married life farming, first at Columbia, then on a farm near Dallas.
They were named Farm Family of the Year in 1970, first in a two-county area, and
then were one of six district winners among Iowa’s 99 counties.
Their award was for taking a rundown farm and making improvements with conservation measures and
cleaning it up with a lot of hard work, along with their children’s help.
Due to Floyd’s health, they sold their farm in 1976 and move to Flagstaff, Ariz., where
Floyd was employed at Northern Arizona University.
In 1986, they moved to Camp Verde,
Ariz. Floyd started gardening in his spare time from work and sold vegetables at
the Tlaquepaque Farmers’ Market in Sedona. He retired as Supervisor of Academic
Custodians at NAU in 1994. He continued gardening and was especially proud of his
tomatoes and green chilies. Declining health finally forced him to give up gardening.
Floyd was also a member of the Masonic Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents
and a sister, Gretta Moffet of Tucson, Ariz.
He leaves behind his loving wife of
60 years, Mary; two sons, Gary Agan of Houston, Texas, and Randy Agan of Flagstaff,
Ariz.; his daughter, Crystal (Mike) Tucker of Camp Verde, Ariz.; his brother, Fred
(Sandy) Agan of Harvey; his sister, Kae (Richard) Stout of Chariton; his brother-in-law,
Marvin Moffett of Tucson, Ariz.; four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, three
great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren, along with several nieces
and nephews.
