Evelyn Arlene (Amos) DeZwarte was born on Aug. 2, 1930, in Knoxville to John and Velta (Jones) Amos. She was raised in Knoxville and attended school there.
On Dec. 13, 1947, she married Burdette DeZwarte (b.1928-d.2007) at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.
Burdette farmed and Evelyn helped with the chores. She eventually went to work at the Little Café for a few years before going to work at the Knoxville V.A. Medical Center. She retired in 1990.
She enjoyed her dogs, doing crafts, and was a great cook. Her greatest joy was being a wife, mother, and grandmother.
Evelyn passed away on Jan. 13, 2007, at her home at the age of 76.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, one in infancy and James, and her sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Eli Poffenbarger
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Burdette; children, Ronald of Hamilton and Rodney, Tanya Dethrow and Kenton all of Knoxville; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and her nephews, John Poffenbarger of Florida and Donald Poffenbarger of Indianola and many other family members and friends.
