Funeral services for Eugene " Buck" Bakalar, 68, of Wilmington, NC, who died November 24, at Mariner Health Care, were held November 29, 1999, at Andrews Mortuary Market
Street Chapel. Reverend Daniel O' Leary officiated at the services.
Burial was at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
He was born February 8, 1931, in Streator, Il the son of the late Mike and Kathryn Margaret Hasso Bakalar. He was raised in Knoxville, Iowa.
Eugene was a member of All Saint's Episcopal Church. He retired from the US Army having served in Korea and Vietnam.
He then worked for 10 years with the Department of Social Services in Des Moines, as a dietary consultant. He was a member of the VFW Post
2573, the Disabled American Veterans and the Retired Officers Association.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Edna Louise Rich Bakalar (b.1931-d.2012); one son, Michael E. Bakalar,
of Laos, Vietnam; one daughter, Bonnie Jane Eppert of Turkey; five grandchildren;
and one brother, George Bakalar of Wilmington, NC.
