Services for Ethel Cora Miers, who died May 6 at West-ridge Manor, were held May 10, 1989 at Bybee and Davis Funeral Home with the Rev. K. Wayne Hoehns officiating. Music was provided by organist James Kidder and soloist John Crawford. Casket-bearers were Shawn Ealy, Doug Miers, Howard Hunt, Clarence Moll, Lloyd Shappell and George Gross-III. Interment was in Graceland Cemetery.

She was born Nov. 11, 1899 on a farm west of Knoxville to Fred and Belle Graves Curtis. She lived her entire Life in Marion County and graduated from Knoxville High School in 1918. She taught in rural schools for three years.

She was married to Clarence F. Miers on Nov. 2, 1921 and they made their home in Knoxville.

Clarence was part owner in Bybee and Davis Funeral Home in Knoxville, Iowa, and was a salesman in the furniture store.

Both were active in organizations around town.
Clarence and Ethel died in the nursing home in Knoxville.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and held various offices in the U.M.W.

She taught Sunday school for many years and was a member of Rebekah Lodge #70 for over 50 years. She was also a member of the Past Noble Grand Club, D.A.R. and Woman's Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and three brothers.

She is survived by two daughters, Mildred Snyder of Vero Beach, Fla., and Lois Peters of Marshalltown; one son, Eldon Miers of Des Moines; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Margaret Taylor of Bartlesville, Okla., Helen Shappell of Oskaloosa and Elizabeth Andrews of Knoxville.

Clarence and Ethel are buried in Knoxville, Graceland Cemetry, Marion Co., Iowa, beside Ethel's parents, Belle and Fred Curtis.
Memorials are to be directed to the scholarship fund at the First United Methodist Church of Knoxville.
