Services for Elreta May (Smith) Burnett, 79, who died Feb. 15, 1990, were held Feb. 17 at Williams Funeral Home.
Interment was in Lincoln Cemetery, Marion County. Revs. K.
Wayne Hoehns and Raymond Moore officiated at the services. Music was provided by
Darlene Mooberry, organist, and John Crawford and Jim Kidder, vocalists.
Pallbearers
were Jeff, Scott, Todd Burnett, George, Gary, and Larry Whitlatch. Honorary
bearers were Richard Black, Neal DeRonde, Elmo Mecham, Eugene Simbro, Gerald DePenning,
Larry Grimes, Gary Schippers, and Vernon VanGorp.
Mrs. Burnett was born in Marion County on June 2, 1910, the daughter of Rueben and Fessie Margaret Palmer Smith.
On March 20, 1925, at Eden Church in Marion County, she married John Carl Burnett
She was a retired school teacher and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Knoxville,
United Methodist Women, Love Circle, Marion County Farm Bureau, Knoxville Women’s
Club, Daughters of Union Veterans, and the Good Neighbor’s Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and one brother, Robert.
She is survived by one son, John S. of Knoxville; two daughters, Mary and Molly, both of Pella; three
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Louise Myers of Adel, Ruby
O’Brien of Greenville, Ohio, and Margaret Raber of Atascadero, Ca.; and one brother,
Charles A. Smith of Knoxville.
A memorial has been established for Christian Opportunity Center.
