Elizabeth Ruth (Oswald) Metz, 84, died Thursday, August 2, 2012, at GRMC Klein Center, Burlington.
She was born June 24, 1928, in Lincoln, Nebraska the daughter of Herman Jackson and Florence Wright Oswald.
She married William Bill Topping Metz on August 19, 1950, in Minneapolis, MN. Ruth
was a homemaker. She was a member of the Burlington Golf Club, Angel Guild of Christ
Episcopal Church, University of Iowa Kappa Kappa Gamma, State Rushing Chairman,
Hetta Gilbert, Fine Arts League, past member of New Crystal Lake Club. Volunteer for
the Des Moines County Republican Party. Ruth enjoyed needlepoint and was very creative.
She was a track star in high school, a census taker, and devoted to her children.
She is survived by her husband, Bill, of Burlington, two daughters, Rachel Metz
(Carl Harnish "fiancée") of Naples, Florida, and Elizabeth (Charles) Soechting of
San Marcus, Texas. One son John (Heidi) Metz of Mitchellville, Iowa. Five grandchildren,
Ashley, Caroline, and Charles Jr. (Lindsay) Soechting and Selma and William Metz.
One great-granddaughter Emory Soechting.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one infant son, Stephen.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 6, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. in Christ Episcopal
Church. Fr. Wayne Kamm will officiate. The interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A Memorial has been established for Christ Episcopal Church.
