Lt. Colonel Douglas George Glime, 80, a 1955 Forest City High School graduate and highly decorated Vietnam fighter pilot, flew his final mission on August 26, 2017.

Doug was born July 29, 1937, the son of Samuel and Bernice Glime who owned and operated G&H Motor Parts beginning in 1952.

He was united in marriage to Merle Hendrickson on July 28, 1962. The Forest City store was owned by Doug and his wife, Merle, at the time of his passing.

Following 1959 Drake University graduation, Doug entered the United States Air Force. Piloting an F-105 Fighter Bomber, he flew 101 missions during the Vietnam War.

Doug was awarded the Silver Star, the Distinguished Flying Cross with four Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Medal, and many other medals honoring his valor. Following Vietnam service, Doug was assigned
to the prestigious Presidential Squadron at Andrews AFB.

Between 1970 and 1980, he piloted aircraft carrying the nation’s highest-ranking government officials around the world. Doug is survived by his wife of 59 years, Merle, five children, and their families.

Burial is at Miramar National Cemetery, San Diego, California.

Former F-105 pilot “Air Force Major Douglas G. Glime, son of Mr. and Mrs. SDoug Glimeamuel O. Glime of R.R. 1, Forest City, lowa, has arrived for duty at Andrews AFB Md.

His wife Merle is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward O. Hendrickson of Rancho Mirage. Major Glime, an HC-135 Hercules pilot, is assigned to the 89th Military Airlift Wing, the special Air Force unit which provides air transportation for the President of the United States and other top government officials. He previously served at Travis AFB and has completed 10 months duty in Southeast Asia.”
