Dorwin L. McDonald, who had managed insurance company offices and was an active church member, died Tuesday, June 3, 2008, from complications of Alzheimer's disease at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home. He was 81.
Mr. McDonald was born May 17, 1927, the son of James and Grace Schell McDonald. He was raised in Knoxville, Iowa. He served in the Navy as a clerk from 1945 to 1946.
He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration in 1950 from the University of Iowa.
Mr. McDonald went to work for the Traveler's Insurance Co. and managed offices in Louisville, Ky., and Seattle.
While managing the company's Baltimore office from 1963 to 1976, he lived in Loch Raven Village.
At the time of his retirement in 1996, he was assigned to the insurance company's Orlando, Fla., office.
Mr. McDonald was an active member of Trinity Assembly of God Church in Lutherville, where he served on committees; most recently, he was on the steering committee of the Franklin Graham
Crusade.
He was a 10-year resident of Oak Crest Village, where he had been a community organizer. For the last three months, he had been a resident of the Southern Maryland veteran's home in Charlotte Hall.
His wife of 50 years, the former Jean Halverson, died in 2001.
He enjoyed golfing.
Services will be held at 1 p,m. tomorrow at Ruck Towson Funeral Home, 1050 York Road. Surviving is three sons, Dr. Tom McDonald of Catonsville, Steven McDonald of Lutherville, and James McDonald of White Marsh; and six grandchildren.
