Dorothy Alice (Vanceunebrock) Casias, age 83, passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2016 in Albuquerque. She was born in Knoxville, Iowa on March 20, 1932.

Dorothy moved to Albuquerque in the early 1960s and married Art Casias in 1967. They were married 49 years at the time of her passing. Dorothy spent 30 years as a dedicated elementary school teacher in Albuquerque.

She also volunteered her time for many years at Sangre de Cristo Catholic Church as Eucharistic Minister.

Dorothy had a passion for music and loved to attend operas. She spent countless hours gardening, crocheting, and beading. She enjoyed spending time with family and was a generous and kindhearted woman of faith.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Eugene “Art” Casias, her 6 children, 16 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Arthur D. Casias.

And survived by his two children, Burgandy, and Simone Casias; also survived by her six children, and grandchildren; daughter, Theresa Casias (Andres Vallejo) and children, Andres, Renetta, and Max Vallejo; daughter, Cecilia Casias-Aragon, and son, Derrick Aragon; son, Daniel Casias (Terri); daughter, Elaine Armijo (Ramon) and children, Eva Runnels, Adrian Armijo, Sarah Story, Anna, Elias, and Asa Armijo; daughter, Diane Hall (Craig) and children, Ben, and Jesse Sillivan; son, Tom Casias (Kari) and children, Gavin, and Taryn Casias.

Dorothy was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and two sisters.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, February 25, 2016, at Daniels Family Funeral Services – Wyoming Chapel, 7601 Wyoming Blvd NE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, February 26, 2016, at Risen Savior Catholic Community Church, 7701 Wyoming Blvd NE.

Entombment will follow the mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. A reception will be held immediately following funeral services and Entombment at St. Stephens Methodist Church (Lower Worship Center) 4601 Juan Tabo Blvd. NE.
