Dorothy Eileen (Steele) Redenbaugh, the daughter of Howard and Nora Sutherland Steele, was born August 17, 1920, in Knoxville, Iowa. She received her early education at the Highland Country School through 8th grade and then graduated from Knoxville High School. Dorothy continued her education in Des Moines receiving her Teaching Certificate.
Dorothy married Richard Redenbaugh on February 14, 1939, in Des Moines, Iowa. Following their marriage, they lived in Indiana and Ohio, where she worked for Gamble Stores. They moved back to Iowa in 1947, where they established a new business, The Camera Shop, which they owned and operated for more than 47 years. Dorothy enjoyed working with Dick at The Camera Shop, to her, it was “pure joy”.
Dorothy was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer; a lifetime member of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Spencer Golf and Country Club. Throughout her life, she enjoyed playing golf, bridge, and family vacations throughout the U.S.A.
Mrs. Redenbaugh passed away on May 28, 2019, at her home in West Des Moines at the age of 98.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dick; sisters: Orel Brent, Betty Lamb, and Marilyn Lamb; brothers: Howard Steele, Jr., Quenton Steele, Bill Steele, and Clifford Steele.
She is survived by her two daughters: Linda (Roger) Roach of Newnan, GA, and Judy Kiger of West Des Moines, IA; grandchildren: Daniel (Claudia) Kirchhoff, Justin Roach, Christina (Jason) Williams, and Peter (Heather) Kiger; great-grandchildren: Gage Kirchhoff, Genevieve and Charlie Williams, Meredith, Matthew, Margaret, and James Kiger; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 1, 2019, at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials to the Hospice of Spencer Hospital.
