Dorothy Ione (Phipps) Niccum, age 94 of Knoxville, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at Bethany Manor in Story City, Iowa.

Dorothy Ione Phipps was born October 8, 1920, in Stevens, Minnesota the daughter of Clarence and Ariel (Wright) Phipps. Dorothy attended school in Knoxville, graduating in 1939. On July 15, 1942, she was united in marriage to Frank Niccum in Rockport, Missouri. Together Dorothy and Frank raised three sons: Sid, Steve, and Bob. She and Frank owned and operated Niccum Plumbing and Heating in Knoxville.

Dorothy enjoyed cooking and baking and helping others. In her later years, Dorothy became a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and was employed as a housekeeper in the rectory, putting to use her homemaking talents. Following retirement, Dorothy lived in Des Moines, staying active by taking trips, keeping in close contact with her Knoxville “church ladies” and using the Mercy Pool with her “wellness” friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Ariel Phipps, and her 11 siblings. She is survived by her sons: Sid (Wendy) Niccum of Clear Lake, Iowa; Stephen (Diane) Niccum of Urbandale, Iowa and Bob Niccum of Raleigh, North Carolina; three grandchildren: Todd (Barb) Niccum, Lisa Niccum Aldridge, and Rory (Souvonah) Niccum; three great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends.

A funeral service for Dorothy Niccum, age 94 Knoxville, will be held on Saturday, July 18 at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the Graceland Cemetery.
