Donald Richard Drake age 75 of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday afternoon, August 27, 2008, at the Hospice House of Mercy following an extended illness.

A private family celebration of life service will be held Saturday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa where friends may call from 12 noon until 4:00. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established. Thoughts, Memories, and Condolences may be left at www.goettschonline.com.

Surviving is his wife, Lucy, 4 sons, Dan (Kim) Cincinnati, Ohio, Mike (Nikki) and Steve (Debbie) both of Marion, Monte (Karie), Cedar Rapids, 10 Grandchildren, 1 great-Grandson and a sister, Colleen (Alvin) Withlatch, Newton.

Donald Richard Drake was born October 1, 1932, in Mystic, Iowa. He was the son of Harry and Madge Zimmer, Drake. He received his education in the Knoxville, Iowa Schools where he graduated in 1951. Don then worked at Maytag in Newton, Iowa.

Donald R. Drake and Geraldine Johnston were married on December 1, 1957, at St. Marks Episcopal Church, Anamosa. The couple lived in Des Moines where Don worked for Martin Oil Co.

They later moved to Cedar Rapids where Don was employed at Hy-Vee. He left Hy-Vee and operated a Jewel Tea Route for many years.

For the past 9 years in retirement, he was the doorman and shuttle driver for the Marriott in Cedar Rapids. When the boys were active in Boy Scouts Don was a leader of Troop 58 in Cedar Rapids.

Don was an avid Cubs Fan. He loved to have the family gathered together to watch the Iowa Hawkeye Games.
