Donald Aaron Zoutte, Sr. was born May 2, 1953, in Iowa City, Iowa the son of Jules Zoutte, Jr. and Sylvia (Davis) Zoutte.

Don was raised in Knoxville and graduated with the Class of 1971.

In June of 1971, he entered the United States Air Force. He served overseas during the Vietnam era. Following his discharge, Don returned to Knoxville.

On December 16, 1978, he was united in marriage to Donna Ballalatak. Through the years Don had worked at the Knoxville V.A. Medical Center, as a mechanic, a security officer, in audio productions, and as a paralegal for the Conrad Law Firm. He was also the owner and operator of the Iowa Veterans Magazine. He was a former Mayor of the City of Knoxville.

Don spent his life tirelessly working as an advocate for veterans. He was instrumental in the Veterans Memorial at the Marion County Courthouse and the installation of the Freedom Rock at Young’s Park.

Don spent countless hours trying to save the Knoxville V.A. Campus from closure. He also worked with individual veterans, helping them receive benefits.

Don passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at his home at the age of 68 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stillborn daughter, Diane Marie, and two brothers, Jimmie Dale Ogden and Ken Ogden.

Those left to cherish Don’s memory include his wife, Donna; children: Angela Kay Sposeto, Randy Lee Zoutte, Jessica Dawn Kennedy, and Donald Aaron Zoutte, Jr.; grandchildren: Dillon,  Don ZoutteRachel, Vincent, Kylee, Ethan, Kenzy, Alex and Brianna; great-grandchildren: Tristin and Rylee; sister, Linda Sue Trammel, and many other family members and friends.

A Memorial Service for Don Zoutte, age 68 of Knoxville, will be held Saturday, May 8, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at the Freedom Rock, 502 North Lincoln Street – Knoxville.

Military honors will be accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Zoutte Family or to the Veteran’s Organization of your choice.
