Debby Sue (Thomas) Sobek, beloved mother of Hayley, Zach, Alex, and Nicole, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 3rd, 2018, at her home in Adel after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 49. Born March 8, 1969, in Des Moines, Iowa.
Debby was adopted by her loving parents, Bud and Lillie Thomas. She grew up in Knoxville, Iowa, and graduated from Knoxville High School, class of 1987.
Debby was passionate about helping and serving the mentally disabled. From this passion, came a dedicated, successful twenty-five-year career that she whole-heartedly enjoyed.
From June 1990-2005, Debby was united in marriage to John Sobek. Together they raised four children. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family and spoiling her seven grandchildren.
Debby attended the Lutheran Church of Hope and valued her relationship with God. In her free time she loved to read, crochet, and go to the movies, but most of all shopping at thrift stores and garage sales.
Debby was known best for her kind heart, her ability to care deeply, and her optimism in finding joy in any situation. She will be remembered most for her strong, loving, personality and for being the best mother, grandmother, and friend anyone could ever be blessed with.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Lillie Thomas.
The visitation will be held on Friday, December 7, 2018, from 10:00-11:00 A.M. with the funeral immediately following at 11:00 AM.
The funeral and visitation will be located at Lutheran Church of Hope: 925 Jordan Creek Pkwy, West Des Moines, IA 50266.
