David Wayne Garrison was born on April 4, 1950 in Knoxville, Iowa. He was one of
six children born to Barbara Jean McClain and Howard LeRoy Garrison.
David grew
up in Knoxville and graduated from Knoxville High School in 1968. He attended Ellsworth
Community College. After returning to Knoxville David worked for Marvin Bassett
at Standard Oil in his shop. Eventually Dave and Jim Bassett opened Bassett and
Garrison Automotive. Dave continued in the automotive business for 25 years; eventually
owning and operating his own business. In 1986 Dave started working at Pella Corp
where he continued until his death.
On February 19, 1972 David Wayne Garrison was
united in marriage to Creta Dianne Collins. To this union three children were born.
Dave enjoyed the outdoors. He always had a vegetable garden with plenty for himself
and family members. Spring always meant mushroom hunting for Dave. He also liked
to keep his yard and cars in “perfect” condition.
Dave was an avid Hawkeye and NASCAR
fan. He followed all of the U of I sports teams. Dave took pride in his 21 years
of perfect attendance at Pella Corp. He received a savings bond for this record
each year which he gave to the grandchildren. Dave’s social activities frequently
involved family especially the grandchildren. He liked to “hang around the shop”
with his siblings.
