Darlene (Allen) Bishop was born on September 4, 1935 in Monroe, Iowa, the daughter of Sam and
Ruby Bailey Allen. She graduated from Knoxville High School May 27, 1954.
She married Phil Bishop on December 23, 1955. To this union, two children were born.
Darlene and her family lived in the Marion County area their entire life. After
working for many Knoxville businesses, she started as an operator with the local
telephone company and retired from Contel Telephone Company thirty years later.
Darlene enjoyed many activities with her family, especially boating, fishing, and
their vacations to Florida. She also enjoyed watching and feeding birds, learning
to use her personal computer, collecting cookie jars with her sister, and attending
all of her grandchildren’s activities.
Darlene passed away on November 28, 2004, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des
Moines, Iowa, at the age of 70 years, two months, and twenty-four days.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Jerry Morse.
She is survived by her husband, Phil of Knoxville; one son, Kevin of Knoxville;
one daughter, Debra Buttrey (Bill) of Knoxville; two brothers, Bobby Allen of Ft.
Myers, Fl and Jackie Allen of Des Moines; three sisters, Donna Park (Max) of Knoxville,
Patty Laymon of Plano, TX, and Sammy Smith (Tom) of Eddyville.
