Daniel Ryan Zager was born November 29, 1975 in Des Moines, Iowa the son of Gerald T. and Judy K. (Sampson-Bertrand) Zager.
He was raised in Knoxville, Iowa and graduated from Knoxville High School with the Class of 1994. During high school he was active in the Jazz Band and the Concert Band.
Following graduation, Dan attended the University of Northern Iowa. He graduated from U.N.I. in 1998 with a degree in music and education.
Dan was the high school band director at Aplington-Parkersburg, Iowa high school for a year. He then took a job with Carnival Cruise line as a band member.
He eventually became a Band Director for Carnival and served on several different vessels throughout the years. Music was truly his life’s passion; he played several instruments and sang.
Dan passed away Sunday, March 6, 2022 at MercyOne Medical Center, in Des Moines, at the age of 46 years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Zager; sister, Barb Zager and sister-in-law, B. Sue Zager.
Dan is survived by his mother, Judy Zager of Pleasantville, Iowa; siblings: Scott Zager of Pinos Altos, 
New Mexico; Michael Zager of Prescott Valley, Arizona; Larry (Becky) Bertrand of St Charles, Iowa; Maja (Jim) McClarnon of Altoona, Iowa and Ray Bertrand of Knoxville, Iowa; several nieces and nephews and many other family members and friends.
A Memorial Service for Dan will be announced at a later date.
