Cory Lloyd Shilling was born November 27, 1957 in Phoenix, Arizona the son of Gary and Ashley (Carson) Shilling. He was raised in Knoxville on the family farm.
During high school, he learned to install carpet and flooring while working for Larry Smith.
Cory graduated with the Knoxville High School Class of 1976.
He then moved to Des Moines and went to work in the flooring industry. For several years he has owned
Cory’s Perfect Floor Covering and worked as a sub-contractor for local flooring
dealers. In his spare time, Cory enjoyed golf, Kansas City Chiefs games, and racing-especially
watching Dale Earnhardt, Jr. He was well known for his inventive culinary creations
and for being the “Grillmaster”. His greatest joy was spending time with family
and friends, whether it was on his boat or at his home.
Cory passed away on Tuesday,
October 14, 2008, at his home, in Booneville, at the age of 50 years, 10 months and
17 days. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Raymond and Thurlene
(Agan) Shilling; maternal grandparents, Edgar and Gladys (Beatty) Carson; brother,
Rodney Shilling; niece, Chrystie, and his second wife, Babs Shilling.
Those left
to honor his memory include his daughters, Angela (Shawn) Grandstaff, and Andrea (Scott)
Wicker all of Des Moines; grandchildren, Isaiah Grandstaff, Baby Wicker (due in
January),Audrey Gruss, Tony Kacher, Arielle Kacher and Vanessa Kacher; father, Gary
Shilling of Knoxville, mother, Ashley Alexandria of Austin, TX; siblings, Rhonda
(Kevin) Chambers of Knoxville, Terees (Kenny) Jenkins of Austin, TX, Sherri (Brent)
Gast of Des Moines, along with other relatives and many friends.
