Corwin Worth Stevenson, 89, of Knoxville, passed away Thursday, February 24, 2011 at his home. Visitation will begin after 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 27, with the family present from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 28, at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Lane Riggle and Pastor Brent Hanna officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery.
C.W. (Corwin Worth) was born on January 1, 1922, at the family home in rural Knoxville to Robert and Helen (Finarty) Stevenson. He grew up and attended school in Knoxville and graduated from Knoxville High School in 1940. He then attended William Penn University for one year.
C.W. was married to the love of his life, Margaret (Peg) Herron, on September 26, 1948, in Marquette, Iowa. The couple met while C.W. was the youth director at the extension service.
He worked for the ASC office for 15 years; he also was a 4-H leader for many years. C.W. served on the Knoxville School District Board and served his church as the Sunday school superintendent for years, all the while doing what he loved best, farming.
C.W. farmed for over 50 years raising Angus cattle, milking cows, and raising hogs. He also loved going to farm auctions, whether it was livestock, machinery, or just antiques; C.W. liked working with his bulldozer. C.W and Peg loved to travel. They enjoyed trips to Scotland, England and a cruise to Alaska. He loved his wife, daughters, and grandkids very much.
C.W. is survived by his wife, Peg Stevenson of Knoxville, three daughters, Ann M. Goff and husband Samuel of Lacona, IA; Kathy L. Trott and husband David of Wellsville, UT; and Karen J. Lundy and husband Kenneth of Knoxville, IA; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, & one brother, Grant Stevenson and his wife Loretta of Burlington, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one great-granddaughter, Jenna Wilson, & three brothers, Lloyd, Lee, and Gene.
Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church or Hospice of Central Iowa.
