Clifford Wayne Park, 74, of Iowa City, formerly of Knoxville, died Thursday, May 23, 2002, at the Knoxville VA Hospital.

Cliff was born on July 16, 1927, in Knoxville, the son of Herbert Park and Georgia (Slocum) Park. He was raised in Knoxville. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1945.

He served for two years before he was honorably discharged in 1947. He returned to Knoxville after the war and graduated from Knoxville High School. He then worked for Elliott’s Studio for a few years. On November 28, 1953, he married Irene Timmermans at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

He served as Marion County Auditor from 1954 to 1959. In 1959 he and Irene opened the Park Studio, which they operated for two years before selling it to Ed Cole. In 1961 he went to work for the VA Hospital, retiring on Jan. 1, 1988, from the Supply Department.

In 1990 he and Irene moved to Iowa City. In their retirement years, they enjoyed the Wednesday Wonders Bowling League. Cliff also enjoyed playing bridge and golf. His greatest joy in life was his family; he cherished the time he spent with his two granddaughters, especially watching their softball and track events.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City, the Knights of Columbus, the I-Club, and the Fairview Golf Course.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Harry, Jack, and Bill.

He is survived by his wife, Irene; a son and daughter-in-law, Steven L. and Linda Park of Mt. Pleasant; two granddaughters, Stephanie and Lindsay; a brother-in-law, Ron Timmermans, and wife Barbara; his uncle, Don Slocum, and wife Margaret; and his aunt, Bertie Perham all of Knoxville and many other family members and friends.

Memorial services for CLIFFORD WAYNE PARK, of Iowa City and formerly of Knoxville will be held at Greenwood Cemetery on Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Mark P. Spring officiating.

Memorial services will also be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City with Rev. Ken Kuntz officiating. The body has been cremated.

Cliff passed away on Thursday. May 24, 2002, at the Knoxville Veterans Hospital at the age of 74 years, 10 months, and 7 days. He served as the Marion County Auditor from 1954 to 1959 and retired from the V.A. Supply Department in 1988.Clifford Park

Cliff is survived by his wife, Irene; one son, Steven L. Park and wife Linda of Mt. Pleasant; two granddaughters: Stephanie and Lindsay; his uncle Don Slocum and wife Margaret of Knoxville and his aunt Bertie Perham of Knoxville.

Friends may call the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home one hour before the service on Tuesday, and friends may also call St. Mary’s one hour before the service on Wednesday.
