Claudia Caroline (Comer) Stitzer was born on September 17, 1941 in Knoxville, Iowa. She was one of two children born to Norma Ada Pritchard and Claude Carroll Comer. Claudia grew up in Knoxville and graduated from Knoxville High School.
She worked at various jobs throughout her life. She was one of the first roller skating waitresses at Pinky’s Drive-in. She also ran the Treasurer Shop for many years.
One of Claudia’s great loves was roller skating. She competed for 8 years and coached for over ten years. She was the coach for the Pella Roller Rink Flying Dutchmen and the Knoxville Roller Rink Teams. Claudia spent many hours doing crafts. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, X-stitch, and many more. Claudia had a doll collection that involved many hours of her time.
When Georgia was young, Claudia was the 4-H leader for the C. C. Gals Club. Claudia always had a soft spot for animals, especially dogs and cats. She frequently would take strays in, feed, and care for them.
Claudia passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2006, at the Griffin’s Nursing Center at the age of 64 years, 6 months, and 12 days.
Preceding her in death were her parents and one brother, George Comer.
Those left to mourn her passing are one daughter, Georgia Tucker and her husband, Justin of Pleasant Hill; one sister-in-law, Bobbi Comer of Des Moines; one nephew, Brian Comer and one great-nephew, Cole Comer.
Graveside services were held on Friday, March 31, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville with Chaplain Bill Lane officiating.
