Cheryl Jean (Rowley) Hennefeld, age 58, of Knoxville, Iowa, passed away Friday evening, March 3, 2017, at her residence in rural Knoxville.
Visitation for Cheryl will be held from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Friday, March 10, 2017, at the Winfield Funeral Home of Knoxville. Cheryl’s family will be present Friday evening from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Friday evening.
A funeral service, with military honors, will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, March 11, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church of Knoxville, with Pastor David Weesner officiating. A private family burial will be held at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville on a later date.
Cheryl was born November 27, 1958 in Knoxville, Iowa. She was the daughter of Myrle Edward and Donna Janette (Ziebarth) Rowley. Cheryl and her family grew up close to Knoxville attended Knoxville school. In junior high and high school Cheryl was active in sports and 4H. She played basketball, and the first year of Knoxville Volleyball. She was an excellent runner in track and her senior year was a state qualifier in track.
Cheryl had also showed cattle for many years in 4H and won many awards. Cheryl was a Knoxville High School graduate, Class of 1977.
In 1978, Cheryl enlisted with the United States Army. She served her country from 1978 to 1981 with the military police and she was stationed at the SIAD Military Station near Herlong, California.
While stationed in California Cheryl met Brian Wayne Hennefeld; the love of her life. Cheryl and Brian were united in marriage in St. Lois, MO on November 17, 1979, to this union two children were born; Ryan and Sara.
In 1981 Cheryl and Brian moved back to Knoxville and Cheryl began working at the Knoxville Hospital and Clinics, as a Respiratory Therapist. She later attended DMACC for one year where she studied horticulture and used her knowledge around her country home.
She worked for many years and was currently employed with Pella Corp. of Pella, Iowa, in the Supply Management Department.
Cheryl was an active member of the First United Methodist Church. She led youth groups, was a Sunday School Director, and she helped with the Vacation Bible School. In Cheryl’s spare time she enjoyed gardening, but her greatest love was spending time with her family.
Cheryl is preceded in death by her grandparents; her sister Kathi Rowley; and her niece Jessica Marshall.
Those left to cherish Cheryl’s memory is her loving husband of 37 years Brian Hennefeld of Knoxville; her two children, Ryan (Heather) Hennefeld of Pella, and Sara (Robert) Parker of Des Moines; and two grandchildren, Ava and Isaac Hennefeld.
Cheryl is also survived by her parents, Myrle (Betty) Rowley of South Bend, IN and Donna (Norman) Norton of Knoxville; four sisters; Karen (Rich) Goff of Knoxville, Christine Rowley of Knoxville, Teresa (Lane) Williams of Knoxville, and Tana Rowley of Montana; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
A memorial has been established in Cheryl’s memory to the First United Methodist Church of Knoxville or HCI Care Services of Knoxville.
The Winfield Funeral Home of Knoxville is assisting Cheryl’s family with services.
