Charles William Evans, age 80, of Harvey, Iowa, passed away on January 6, 2021, at UnityPoint Health-Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.

Charles was born on August 10, 1940, at his family home in Harvey, the son of Harvey and Ethel Faye “Tiny” (Morgan) Evans. Charles went to Harvey country school and graduated from Knoxville High School in 1958.
Charles was united in marriage to Nancy Witzenburg and they were blessed with two children; Charles and Pamela. They later divorced.
In 1971, Charles married Marian Elaine Fowler, they were also blessed with two children; Teresa and Sherrie, and he gained two bonus children; Kevin and Kim.

Charles joined the United States Army in 1961 and proudly served his country until 1967. During his time in the military, he was stationed in Germany. After his time in the service, Charles worked at Kaiser Quarry as a driller and was then employed for many years at the Ben Shinn Trucking Company.

Charles, for many years, was active with the Harvey Fire Department and he served as the Fire Chief. He was also a former member of the Harvey City Council. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially deer hunting. When Charles was younger, he liked sprint car racing and bowling.

Charles’s wishes were to be cremated. Burial services with military honors will take place at Eureka Cemetery in the Spring.

Charles is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Elaine Evans of Harvey; children, Chuck EvansChuck Evans (Rosa) of Knoxville, Pamela Bowman (Dale) of Martinsburg, Teresa Kaestner (Dennis) of Knoxville, Sherrie Pickering (Gregg) of Knoxville, Kevin Lawson of Newton, and Kim Nelson of Knoxville; siblings, Robert Evans (Susan) of Knoxville, Ruth Jones (Lodus) of Pershing; twelve grandchildren, Amanda, Tina, Matthew, Danny, Abby, Lindsay, Justin, Chalee, Jonathan, Nichole, Kylie, and Zachary; sixteen great-grandchildren and one on the way; also many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Ethel “Tiny” Evans.
The Winfield Funeral Home in Knoxville is assisting Charles’ family.
