Charlene Nettie (DeMoss) Thompson, 68, of Knoxville died on March 26, 2006, at the
Knoxville Area Community Hospital.

Charlene was born on Jan. 22, 1938, in Knoxville
to Charles Carl and Julia Arlene (Cowman) DeMoss. She attended Knoxville Schools.
She was an avid horse rider in her youth.

She married Ira Jay Thompson in November
1959. It was not uncommon to find Charlene and her family camping and boating at
Lake Red Rock during the summer. Charlene was a bookkeeper at heart, working at
several businesses in Knoxville before moving to California. She returned home to
her friends and family after several years. To unwind she loved to knit, play Yahtzee
and work on crossword puzzles. She would spend most Saturday nights with family, neighbors
, and friends playing cards.

Poor health forced her to retire. She Florida and Arizona
to see her daughters and grandchildren. She was very fond of her jaunts to Minnesota
to go gambling with her family. She thoroughly enjoyed visits and phone calls from
friends and family. Her declining health and the passing of her daughter finally took
their toll.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Carl and Julia Arlene
DeMoss; her brother, Charles Eugene DeMoss; her sister, Nellie Lee (DeMoss) Cook and her daughter, Tammie Jo Grundig.

She is survived by her son, Ira Jay (Sam) Thompson
Jr. of San Jose, Calif.; a daughter, Pam Singelyn of Knoxville; two sisters, Martha
(Jim) Hulgan of Perry and Jo Ann Malone of Des Moines; her very precious friend
and neighbor, Georgia Burnett; many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives
and friends.

A memorial service was held on April 1. Interment of cremains was in
Graceland Cemetery.
