Funeral services for Carol (Smith) Zeck, 50, of 1709 Devitt Ave., will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home, Muscatine. Burial will be in Muscatine Memorial Park. Mrs. Zeck died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999, at her home.

Carol Smith was born July 22, 1948, in Marshalltown, the daughter of Robert and Martha Dunaway Smith.
She was united in marriage to Rev. Charles Allen Zeck (b.11/27/ 1944) on June 4, 1966, in Knoxville, Iowa.

She worked for Mike Lane CPA for 16 years, and Beverly Hunt Tax and Accounting as an accounting technician. She also did bookkeeping and payroll work for Kopf Vending and King-Lueck Insurance Company.

She attended the Apostolic Church in Knoxville; the Apostolic Bible Institute in St. Paul, Minn., the Calvary Apostolic Church in Des Mones; and the First United Pentecostal Church in Muscatine

She is survived by her husband, Rev. Charles Zeck of Muscatine, a daughter, Christene Weisbrod, Woodbury, Minn.; sons, Curtis, Illinois City, and Chad, Muscatine; four grandchildren; her stepmother, Bea Smith, Oskaloosa; a sister, Pam King, Clovis, Calif.; and a brother, Dan Smith, Carroll.

The late Carol (Smith) Zeck of Muscatine was inducted into the Knoxville High School Hall of Fame posthumously.

Carol Smith was a member of Knoxville’s 1964 girls golf
team that won the school’s only state championship in that sport. Accepting the
award for his late wife was Charles Zeck of Muscatine.

Carol (Smith) Zeck also played on Knoxville’s girls’ basketball team. Other members of the team inducted were Nancy
Park, Betty (Hook) Cunningham, Karen (Bane) McGimpsey, Pamela (Smith) King, and Molly
(Darnell) Minana.

The coach of the 1964 squad was John Carle, who also took Knoxville
to the boys state basketball tournament and later won a state basketball title at
Des Moines Lincoln.
