Carol Ann (Shoemaker) Fee was born December 9, 1932 in Knoxville, Iowa the youngest of seven children of Lawrence and Rita Shoemaker.

Carol attended Knoxville Schools and graduated with the Class of 1950. Following graduation, she worked at the Marion County Courthouse. On February 2, 1951, Carol was united in marriage to Ross Fee. To this union, seven children were born. Carol went from a “city girl” to a farm wife and mother. Ross raised big gardens and Carol canned and froze the fruits of his labor. She also raised and dressed hundreds of chickens over the years.

In later years, Ross and Carol moved to town. They loved to travel to Branson and the Ozarks for vacations. One of Carol’s favorite sayings was, “let’s eat out”. On occasion they would drive to Springfield, Missouri, or Sioux Falls, South Dakota “just for lunch” and they would often be found at Godfather’s in Knoxville or the Pizza Ranch in Pella. Carol was an excellent cook and Monday lunch became a regular routine. She would often cook for 15-20 guests. Ross passed away in 2013. Carol remained in her home until recently, where children and grandchildren would visit often.

Carol passed away Thursday, February 24, 2022, at the Mercy Medical Center, in Des Moines, at the age of 89 years.

In addition to her parents and husband, Carol was preceded in death by two sons: Kent and Mark; her siblings: Dale, Eva, Gene, Ruth, Paul, and Bill, and her daughter-in-law, Kaylene.
