Carmen Lois (Gullion) Vander Ecken, 87, of Melcher-Dallas, passed away on June 4, 2023. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Melcher-Dallas from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m.
Private family services will be held at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Melcher-Dallas. Memorials are requested from the Melcher-Dallas Fire Department or Care Initiatives Hospice-Albia.
Carmen Lois Vander Ecken was born September 20, 1935, in Eddyville, Iowa to Charley and Vina Gullion. Her parents passed away at a young age and she was raised by her aunt, Fern Oaks.
She attended Knoxville Schools and graduated in 1955. She married William “Bill” Vander Ecken on May 26, 1956. They were blessed with four sons: Steven, Richard, Michael, and David.
Carmen enjoyed being a mom and a homemaker. She loved to crochet and was an avid reader. Carmen and Bill wintered in Alamo, Texas for over 20 years.
One of the many activities they enjoyed was the country music jams.
She was also blessed with five grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her boys and their families: Steven (Wendy) Vander Ecken, Richard (Kathy) Vander Ecken, Michael (Barb) Vander Ecken, and David (Jeff Jenkins) Vander Ecken; along with many relatives and friends.
