Bobbie Smith Harvey, 84, of Tracy, Iowa passed away Sunday, October 10,2010 at the Pella
Regional Health Care Long-Term Care.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October
12, 2010 beginning after noon with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at Williams
Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October
13, at Living Word Fellowship with Pastor Doug Brady officiating.
Bob was born on
January 20, 1926 to Lorin Samuel and Alta Marie (Smith) Harvey at home 3 miles south
of Knoxville. He grew up in the Knoxville area and attended Brownlee School and
then graduated from Knoxville High School in 1944.
Bob married his sweetheart Margaret
DeWit and to this union two sons were born, Mike and Greg.
Margaret passed away
on September 21, 1969.
He later married Betty Lou Knutson on January 30, 1975 in
Des Moines. The couple made their home in the Tracy area where Bob had farmed since
graduating from high school. Bob was a farmer, but did not like working with livestock.
He usually grew seed corn, but he built a pond and raised gold fish for awhile.
While Bob was a young man he enjoyed hunting and trapping. He trapped enough animals
one year to buy a car from their pelts. He was a member of the NRA and Living Word
Fellowship.
Bob loved sharing his faith and passing out tracks. He enjoyed collecting
marbles, stones, arrowheads, fishing, hunting and gardening. He and Betty loved
traveling, in fact they had seen all 50 states as well as parts of Europe. Bob was
a true family man and loved spending time with all of them. He especially loved
to tell stories from the olden days. Bob was a genuinely good man.
Bob is survived
by his wife, Betty of Tracy, IA; children, Mike Harvey and wife Donna of Shenandoah, IA; Greg Harvey and wife Kelly of Pella, IA; Jim Knutson and wife Sandy of Tampa,
FL; Vicki Shaw and husband Joe of Des Moines, IA; Nancy Raleigh of Des Moines, IA;
and Jeanie Grice and husband Ron of Altoona, IA; 18 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren,
brother Ted Harvey and wife Phyllis of Attica, IA, sister, Arvila Bailey and husband
Marion of Knoxville, and sister-in-law, Marge Warner of Columbia, South Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Margaret and grandson,
Matthew Raleigh.
