Robert Stephen Haynie (Bob) was born to Dorothy J. and Robert G. Haynie on January
3, 1954 in Hunstanton, England.
In 1956 Dorothy, Carol and Bob moved back to Knoxville. Personal issues seemed to
plague Bob. He dropped out of high school in the 10th grade and enlisted in the
Navy. Following his discharge, he traveled back and forth between Knoxville and
his father’s home in Arizona.
Bob obtained his GED in 1986 and in 1992 he became a Certified Alcohol and Drug
Counselor, a job he loved. He lived in Des Moines and spent 17 years as a counselor
in various residential and outpatient programs, with both adolescents and adults.
Due to multiple health issues, Bob had to stop working a couple of years ago. His
most recent employment was with the Hy-Vee Pharmacy, delivering prescriptions to
customers.
Bob liked to play pool, golf, and softball until his health no longer allowed it. He
also loved antiques, collected race cars, and small-scale model cars, and rode
his Harley.
He passed away on Monday, December 21, 2009, at his home at the age of 55 years, 11 months, and 18 days. Bob is preceded in death by his mother and a nephew, Bradley
Troendle. He is survived by his sister, Carol (Dave) Troendle, and nephew, Scott
Troendle, of Knoxville, as well as many friends in Des Moines and Knoxville.
