William Calvin Tandy was born November 15, 1953 in Oskaloosa, Iowa the son of William Russell and Lenora Jean (Blom) Tandy.
Bill spent most of his youth in Knoxville, Iowa graduating with the Class of 1972. Following high school, Bill enlisted in the United States Air Force.
Besides the United States, he served in Guam and Thailand. After his honorable discharge, Bill attended school at Des Moines Area Community College, earning a Registered Nurse Degree.
He would later return to Knoxville where he worked at Mercy Franklin, in Des Moines, and the Knoxville V.A. Medical Center. He retired in the early 2000’s.
In his spare time, Bill enjoyed classic rock and attended many concerts through the years. He was a fan of the Knoxville Raceway and riding motorcycles. He loved going to the movies, especially with his daughter, Mallory.
He enjoyed reading, especially non-fiction. He loved cooking and trying new recipes.
Spending time with his sister, nieces and nephew at the camp grounds on summer nights was another favorite activity. Bill was also passionate about photography and art.
He had a sweet tooth and loved a good candy bar. He was an intelligent and intuitive man that shared insightful comments and ideas with those he communicated with. Bill was probably best known for his light-hearted nature and dry sense of humor.
Bill passed away Thursday, April 11, 2024 at his home, in Knoxville, Iowa, at the age of 70 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Russ and Lenora Tandy and nephew, Patrick Lee Tandy.
Those left to cherish Bill’s memory include his daughter, Mallory Tandy of West Des Moines, Iowa; siblings: Sheryl VanderSchoor of Des Moines; Vicki Hoch and husband Roger of Altoona; Russell Tandy and wife LuAnn of Columbia, Missouri and Tanya Hopf and husband Wally of Knoxville and many nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
Bill has been cremated and a private family burial will be held.
