Funeral services for Billy D. McMillen of Bertha were held at 10:30 AM on Thursday,
March 31, 2011 at the Domian-Anderson Funeral Home in Bertha with Pastor Mark
Brown presiding.
Bill passed away at the age of 72 years at his home in Bertha.
Bill was born on November 11, 1938 at Knoxville, Iowa to Worth and Lavern (Williams)
McMillen. He attended school in Knoxville and began his service to his country when
he enlisted in the US Air Force on December 8, 1955. After 20 years and having served
in locations such as Germany, Hawaii and stateside, he was honorably discharged
January 1, 1976.
While he was in the service, Bill was united in marriage with Josephine
A. Wegner at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bertha on September 1, 1960. After retiring
from the Air Force, he and Jo made Bertha their home in 1976. He worked in maintenance
at the Bertha-Hewitt School.
He was a member of the Bertha Lions Club. He enjoyed
casino’ing, shaking dice and playing cards, search-a-word puzzles and following
NASCAR. He enjoyed his annual trip to the Iowa State Fair and spending time with
his daughter and grandchildren.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife Jo on February
28, 1997; parents Worth and Lavern; sisters-in-law Roberta McMillen and Norene Nack;
and brothers-in-law Jerry Stevens, Butch Wegner and Kenny Wegner. He is survived
by his daughter Jody (Brian) Kuyava of Bertha; grandchildren Brandon (Marisa) Kuyava
of Fargo and Ashley (Tyler Klinske) Kuyava of Eagan; brothers Jerry of Altoona,
IA and Kelly (Marilyn) of Melcher, IA; and sisters Connie Douthit of Mineral Wells,
TX and Carrie Stevens of Knoxville, IA.
Honorary pallbearers were Bill Hughs, Doug Kapphahn, Ray Eiswald, Don Payne, Rusty Roach, Joe Schuller, Dale Graphenteen, Dave
Truax and all his nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Ken Ashbaugh, Bryan Haase,
Lance Grewe, Bob Seiling, Walter Packard and Gary Kleen.
Military Honors were provided
by the MNARNG Honor Guard. Interment was in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery located
in Bertha Township.
