Billy Joel Hlad was born November 13, 1941, in Knoxville, Iowa the son of William A. Hlad and Cleta C. (Marker) Hlad.
He graduated from Knoxville High School in the Class of 1959. In 1963 Billy entered the United States Air Force. He served 16 years before his honorable discharge in 1975. Billy then became a Pastor and he served at Calvary Baptist Church in Knoxville.
He later moved to Arizona and worked in property management. From there Billy moved to Texas where he worked at an airport and then in hotel security.
In 1999 he moved back to Knoxville and for the last 18 months, he has resided at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.
Billy was a licensed pilot for several years and enjoyed flying small aircraft.
Billy passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2019, at the Iowa Veterans Home, in Marshalltown, at the age of 78 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Those left to honor Billy’s memory include his children: John (Stephanie) Hlad of Monroe, Steven (Sheri) Hlad of Knoxville, Joseph (Sarah) Hlad of Indianola, and Teresa (Jim) Nighswander of Cedar Rapids; 4 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends.
Graveside Funeral Services for Billy Hlad, age 78 of Knoxville, will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at Gullion Cemetery near Attica. Memorials may be made to the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.
