William "Bill" DeWinter, 81, of Rock Island, died Friday, July 7, 2006, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, at Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, where military rites will be accorded by Rock Island VFW Post 1303, where he was a life member, and Milan American Legion Post 569.

Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, where Masonic rites will be accorded by Trio Lodge 57, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Children's Hospital.

Bill was born Sept. 26, 1924, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, son of William Sr. and Fern Arnold DeWinter.

He was in the Army during World War II. He was in the second wave of the Allied invasion at Omaha Beach. He married Marjorie Ervin Oct. 11, 1946, in Galesburg. She died Feb. 19, 1997. He attended A.I.C. and became an accountant at Alcoa. He retired in 1982 after 35 years.

He was a member of Rock Island Moose Lodge 190, Trio Masonic Lodge 57, Scottish Rite Bodies, Kaaba Temple Shrine, life member VFW Post 1303, Blackhawk Shrine Club and Alcoa Retirees' Club. He enjoyed bowling, playing cribbage and euchre and visiting with his friends.

He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Theresa DeWinter, Coal Valley, William James and Linda DeWinter, Tulsa, Okla., Russell and DeeAnn DeWinter, Rock Island, and David and Brenda DeWinter, Hampton, Ga.; grandchildren, Matthew, Mary, Darrell, Robert, Brian and Rich; great-grandchildren, Damon, Allison, Kyle, Devin, Delainey, Kaitlin, Alyn and Kaytlynn; and a brother, Thomas Arnold DeWinter, Park Rapids, Minn.
