Betty S. (Somers) Whitlatch went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 13, 2005 after a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday. June 16, 2005 at Hamilton’s.

Funeral Home on Lyon Street with Pastor Bob Connors officiating Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Pleasant Hill.

Betty was born on January 7. 1928, the daughter of Thelma and Cliff Somers. She grew up in the Marion County area and
graduated from High School in 1945.

On September 28, 1946, Betty married Charles Walton Whitlatch Sr they lived in Racine Wisconsin before settling in Des Moines for the last 55 years where they raised their family.

She always made sure her family was taken care of. She was an excellent cook and loved nothing better than organizing family gatherings. Betty worked for 15 years and retired from Northwestern Bell Telephone Co.

Betty loved the Lord with all her heart and enjoyed listening to gospel music. She also liked to read mystery novels and watch movies.

Betty is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Charles, sons; Walt (Carolyn), David, Cliff, Alan, Hugh (Jodi Hanson) and daughter Kayla (Andy) Vaskis: 14 grandchildren
and nine great-grandchildren. She also leaves a loving brother, Van (Judy) Somers.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and daughter-in-law, Patricia Whitlatch.

Betty showed remarkable strength and courage through her years of illness.

She will be missed by all of her family and friends who loved her deeply.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening.

Memorials may be made to Union Park Independent Christian Church, East 9th and Grandview.
