Betty Margaret (Mozena) Moon, 88, formerly of Milan, a resident of Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline, died Saturday, July 23, 2011, at the center.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the family. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island, is assisting the family.

Betty was born on September 2, 1922, in Waukee, Iowa a daughter of Edwin and Helen Mozena. She graduated from high school in Knoxville, Iowa, and married Donald F. Moon, a marriage that lasted over 50 years and produced three children.

Betty was one of the World War II wives who worked at the Farmall producing for the war effort while her husband served in the Navy. Later she performed secretarial duties for various firms in the area. She was always there to help anyone in need, family or not, and holiday meals were often blessed with guest who otherwise would have been alone.

An avid animal lover, Betty's home was open to many homeless creatures over the years.

Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald, and her parents.

She is survived by her children, Sue Moon, Greg (Susan) Moon and Terry Moon; a daughter-in-law, Bobbie Moon, Davenport; five grandchildren, Susie Mayerhofer Bizarri, Chad (Kelly) Mayerhofer, Julie (Steve) Rygelski, Michael (Becky) Moon and Stephanie Moon; nine great-grandchildren; an extended family of nieces and nephews from Alaska to Texas and in-between; and more recently her care family at Hope Creek Care Center whom she loved.
