Florence Betty (Blackman) Deitrick, 86, of Des Moines, died on Saturday, March 21, 2009, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center. Her body has been cremated. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Betty was born on March 12, 1923, in Knoxville to Andrew and Pearl (Noftsger) Blackman. She was a graduate of Knoxville High School.
On Aug. 17, 1946, Betty married Tommy Edward Deitrick in Des Moines. She was a member of the Glen Echo Christian Church in Des Moines where she also taught Sunday school.
Betty is survived by a son, Douglas Deitrick of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Pamela Deitrick of Des Moines, and a half-sister, Patty Frye (Phil) of Bussey.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents and her husband on Sept. 20, 2001.
A memorial fund has been established in Betty’s name for the Kidney Foundation.
Chet Ryan Mortuary and Cremation Services of Nevada have been entrusted with Betty and her family.
