Bettie Vern (Hart) Hanna was born on Dec. 2, 1923, in Washington Township, Marion
County. She was one of two daughters born to Dimmie Gregory and William Allen Hart.
Bettie grew up in the Knoxville area and graduated from Knoxville High School in
1941.
On Dec. 14, 1941, Bettie Lavern Hart was united in marriage to William Thomas Hanna.
To this union, three children were born.
Bettie and Bill farmed in the Knoxville-Chariton area until his death in 1989.
Bettie was a typical farm wife, helping raise the children, gardening, and doing various farm chores.
She was especially fond of caring for the livestock.
The family was a long-time member of the Pleasant Prairie Church.
Since moving to town, Bettie enjoyed flower gardening. he planted a Mandeville each
year which was certain to attract hummingbirds which she enjoyed watching.
At Windsor Ridge and Bettie spent many hours working jigsaw puzzles in the community room.
Bettie Hanna passed away on Nov. 20, 2008, at the Knoxville Hospital at the age of 84.
Those family members who preceded her in death were her parents, husband, and one sister, Arlowene Hodges.
Those left to mourn her passing are two sons and their wives, Tom and Barb Hanna of Lodi, Calif.,
and J. D. and Anita Hanna of Marion, Ark.; one daughter, Penelope Hunt of Santa Rose, Calif.; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Nov. 25 at Williams Funeral Home with Rev. Raymond Doser officiating.
The interment was in Breckenridge Cemetery in rural Marion County.
Memorials in memory of Mrs. Hanna may be made to the Knoxville First United Methodist Church or Helping Hands Food Pantry.
