Armilda Irene (Vanderwilt) Hartley, 93, of Park Place Long Term Care Unit in Mount Pleasant, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2002, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born May 5, 1908, in Knoxville, she was the daughter of Dirk and Nora Fortner Vanderwilt. She married Byron Dale Hartley on April 15, 1936, in Des Moines. He died Feb. 22, 1978.

Mrs. Hartley was a former organist at WHO radio station in Des Moines. After she and her husband moved to Mount Pleasant, she was a full-time homemaker.

She was a member of a bridge club and a former member of the TTT society. She loved music.

She is survived by one daughter, Suzanne “Butch” Smith of Mount Pleasant; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.

The private funeral service for Mrs. Hartley was at Weir Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Philip A. Borleske officiating. Burial was in Forest Home Cemetery in Mount Pleasant.
