Annette Marie (Cox) Grimes was born May 28, 1937, in Knoxville, Iowa the daughter of Commodore Dewey and Lola “Bill” (Godfrey) Cox.

Annette was raised in Knoxville where she played varsity basketball, starting in the 8th grade. She lettered all 5 years and was awarded a white “K”. She graduated in 1956.

On June 24, 1956, Annette was united in marriage to Bill Grimes, and to this union, 4 children were born.

Annette worked at the Knoxville Hospital in the kitchen, then for Dr. Mater, and eventually in payroll.

She later worked at the Post Office in Knoxville, then became the Postmaster in Columbia, before returning to the Knoxville Post Office desk from which she retired.

In her spare time, Annette enjoyed gardening, ceramics, and bowling and was an avid fan of all sports.

She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and had held officer positions in the sorority.

More than anything, Annette was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend. She had a very generous nature and helped many people through the years.

Annette passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at the Comfort House in Pella at the age of 86 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Commodore Cox, and Lola Cox Vohl; stepfather, Leslie “Mick” Vohl; son, William Michael Grimes; daughter, Cindy Marie Grimes and brother, James Cox.

Those left to cherish Annette’s memory include her daughters, Katherine (Douglas) Bogaards and Suzanne Grimes; 4 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends.

A funeral service for Annette Grimes, age 86 of Knoxville, will be held Monday, November 13, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Community of Christ Church.

Burial will follow in Zion Cemetery in Williamson.

Visitation will begin after 10:00 a.m. Sunday at Bybee & Davis Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
